Bill Byers, from Oklahoma, is making his first trip back to Normandy since coming ashore in 1944 with the 300th Combat Engineers

Bill Byers enlisted in early 1943 and, after training in the states, was sent to England on the notorious Queen Mary. As a combat engineer, he and his company reached Utah Beach in mid-June. It was a bloody scene. The 300th Combat Engineers lost 95 men in the landing alone.
